Megan is determined to protect her daughter from the terribleness of the outside world, and the only solution she sees is isolation. A relationship fueled by Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, Megan's plan seems to be going smoothly until her only source of financial support suddenly diminishes. In a desperate attempt to regain stability, Megan is willing to do anything, even if it means killing her own daughter.

A troubled little girl with selective mutism, Mary Anne's life changes upon her father's heart condition taking a turn for the worst. Mary Anne's mother, constantly stressed from taking care of her daughter and ill husband, attempts to bring stability to their life, although Mary Anne's condition makes it difficult to do so. Mary Anne’s only companion is her dog, Scout, whom she often talks to in private. She tells him of her troubles and updates regarding her father state. As time passes, however, Mary Anne soon realizes that her beloved Scout may be the solution to father’s condition.
